So we went to the doc today for our first real appointment. Dr. Mac is a really nice doctor. My exam looked normal. Uterus is of normal size for a single baby of 7w1d. Cervix looked and felt normal. Heartbeat was good (but we didn’t get a BPM). Even though I didn’t get a copy, my bloodwork came back normal. Everything there that should be and nothing there that shouldn’t be.
Dr. Mac was nice enough to give me some phenergan for my nausea. I’ve had a rough time lately with being horribly nauseated but not actually being able to vomit (I’ve only actually vomited 5 times so far). Anyway, we did our first ultrasound! And by the way, vaginal ultrasounds are weird.

Das Baby!
Baby is 1.01 cm long. The round thing on top of it (that looks kind of like a donut) is the yolk sac, which will eventually become it’s guts.
The black all around it is my uterus and the rest outside of that is just me.

Worst. Vomit-fest. Ever. I’ll spare you the nasty details but I’ll not be eating anymore brownies for the rest of my pregnancy.
I think I’ll have a chat with Dr. Mac on Tuesday about what to do. Tonight I tried phenergan… puked it up. Tried ginger tea… puked it up. I haven’t made anymore regular sweet tea and I’m afraid to put anything solid in my mouth (ice lollies). I’ve run out of ideas and I think I’ve ripped my esophagus. I hear a lot of women have success with Zofran. I’d hate to have to use suppositories but that maybe what I’m resigned to.
Poor Will… he does his best and gets me a glass of water and a cold washcloth every time but he can’t stand around long… I do’t blame him. But he manages to stand just outside the doorway until I’m finished. Now if only the dry heaves would stop. >.<

First off, Cin. I <3 you so much.
You’re rad.
Now… on to me. What the crap is with the nausea? I know it’s normal. I understand this. I accept this. However, I would be much better about it if I actually vomited instead of sitting here afraid to take medication because I might puke it back up or afraid to eat because I might puke it back up… you see where I’m going with this. And I’ve become SO sick of ginger. It’s all I can think of to help settle my stomach and I’m tired of it. Can’t even really stand the lemonade anymore.
And before anyone says it, mint is out of the question. It is an abortificiant and I REFUSE to put my hard worked for pregnancy at risk because someone read online that it’s ok to drink ass-tons of mint tea during pregnancy…. here’s a clue: it’s used in the last week of pregnancy to help labor along. Still seem safe to you? Oh, and before you say “Well, it’s ok in certain quantities,” do you understand exactly how much is safe? When I was using herbs as birth control, all it took me was 3 cups of tea a day to trigger menses. 3 cups! It takes at least that much to ward off nausea! And if you dare tell me that one or two cups will do I’ll tell you you’re full of shit. If you’re successfully warding off morning sickness with one or two cups of mint tea then it’s all a placebo affect and the mint isn’t actually doing anything for you.
Oh, look. I’ve gone and gotten aggravated. My apologies but it had to be said. I want to facestab whoever it was that started the idea that “Herbs = Safe”. Seriously. Do a little research and you’ll see that most herbs are poisonous during pregnancy.
Anyway, as you can see, the hormones are raging. I’m exhausted, grumpy, nauseous, crampy and just generally tetchy. But on the upside, my headache went away today! When we visit Dr. Mac on the 14th, I’m going to ask him about the headaches. In the meantime, I’m going to take Cin’s advice and go back to sweet tea. I’ll even squeeze a bit of lemon juice into it.

Symptoms
As of today, we’re 6 weeks on the dot. I managed to not have any pukage on Friday but made up for it yesterday. Luckily I had just finished a Coke Icee, so it didn’t taste as bad as usual.
Mom brushed my hair out (it was one massive mat from not being brushed for a while). Then we braided it so it wouldn’t knot up again. We also measured it… 33″. That’s just under 3 feet! We’ll be trimming about 4 inches off of it in a few days, though. I’ve got way too many flyaways.
Then we had a nice dinner of Mom’s homemade chili (and I find myself wanting some more, now, at 2:30 in the morning). We also watched the ER finale until time to come home. Am I the only one seriously disappointed by the finale? It just didn’t “feel” like a finale to me. I AM excited to see what Southland is going to be like, though. ER for cops!
Also, if anyone has any clue how to deal with these migraines I’m having… please help! It’s driving me mad! Normally I’d pop some phenergan and Tylenol-3 but I’m kind of afraid to over-do that, now.
6 more weeks of the 1st trimester! (The groundhog saw it’s shadow.)

We went to meet our OB’s nurse yesterday. She’s really nice and we like her. They drew all of my blood out (I have no more) to run a BUNCH of tests.. blood panel, hormones, STD’s, HIV, various immunization stuff… yeah. Lots of things.
We also got free stuff from Similac. Apparently they give you useful stuff through the pregnancy. For the 1st trimester, we got a pregnancy journal. It’s quite nice in a black canvas cover that snaps close and has room to hold business (or appointment) cards and a pen as well as milestones throughout it detailing what’s going on with the pregnancy. In the 3rd trimester we’re supposed to get a travel bag to pack our stuff for the run to the hospital and when we actually deliver, we get a diaper bag at the hospital. FUN!
We return on the 14th to meet the doc, have a pelvic exam and our 1st ultrasound. I’ll post the pics, if we get them.
Also, I had my first TRUE bout of morning sickness yesterday. I woke up form a nap and thought “Hmm. I’m nauseous. I should eat.” So I went to the kitchen and started warming up some soup. Then I promptly ran to the bathroom and puked bile then dry heaved for a few minutes. I then finished cooking my soup and ate it… then ran BACK to the bathroom and puked it right back up. I was sad to waste such good soup.

So, I know this isn’t pregnancy related but I was feeling really nauseous earlier and thought that a ginger soup would help. Den came across a recipe, I modified it a bit and it came out SO good!
3 1/2 c. (828 ml) chicken broth
1 stalk celery (with leaves)
4 baby carrots
1 medium sized knob of fresh ginger root, peeled
4 cloves garlic, peeled and whole
1/4 tsp. (dash) of crushed red peppers
1/4 tsp (dash) of chopped parsley
1 tsp (5 ml) soy sauce
Jullienne the celery, ginger and carrots. Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and boil for 30 minutes. Remove garlic and serve. For an extra bonus, add 1/2 serving of plain ramen noodles. Peppers may be omitted to tone down the spice.
This SO helped my nausea today.
